E-Learning Spanish Translation for Reasoning Mind
Boston, MA December 2017 – Language Connections, a provider of document translation services and interpretation in Boston, has provided language services in Academia for over 20 years. Our clients are involved in a range of areas, from early childhood education to university level teaching. As more educational opportunities move online, we often see need for education translation services.
Recently, we worked on a project that required Spanish eLearning translation services for a mathematical Elearning designed for bilingual school children in Pre-Kindergarten through the 1st grade.
What Is Reasoning Mind?
Our client, Reasoning Mind, is an education-centered, non-profit organization that is focused on making math education accessible to children across all socioeconomic strata. The organization designs interactive, online blended learning programs in mathematics to lay the foundation and prepare students for higher education. Recently, they decided to adapt on of the online programs they offer for Spanish speaking children going to school in the United States.
We were asked to translate Reasoning Mind’s “Blueprint” curricula (300 lessons in total) – a set of math lessons and modules – from English into Spanish. Several special requirements had to be met in order for this project to be successful which included:
- Finding qualified translators fluent in U.S. Spanish and familiar with mathematics for the 9 month project
- Putting together a solid team of proofreaders also familiar with mathematics to ensure all translated material was rendered correctly and accurately, as well as to ensure it adhered to U.S. Common Core Standards for Mathematics
- Sourcing and securing one main, Spanish voice talent for the ultimate narration of the translated scripts
Spanish Elearning Translation Services
To meet the requirements the client outlined for the translation of elearning materials, we selected a team of Spanish translators and proofreaders who had backgrounds in math and early childhood education.
The team we selected needed to utilize their knowledge of cultural and linguistic aspects unique to Spanish speakers living in the United States, to adopt the lesson plans in a manner that would be easily understood by young schoolchildren. The translations again needed to be in accordance with U.S. educational standards. To ensure this, our team of proofreaders and editors collaborated directly with the client.
Technical and Creative Challenges
The project was technically challenging as, ultimately, the translations worked on by our team would need to be implemented into the Elearning software. This meant that our translators were working with text that had direct impacts on the functioning of the software. If anything was translated incorrectly, or certain coded elements that appeared in the text were not placed in the correct locations, the Elearning would not work.
The project was also challenging creatively. The aim of the Blueprint series is to engage young learners, and encourage them to be interested in math. As such, the story lines of the lesson plans are fantastical, and fun in nature. Transcreation needed to be incorporated into the translation of elearning scripts and materials to ensure that character names and plot lines would make sense to the end users.
Once the lesson plans and the audio scripts were translated, we provided Spanish voice over services for the Elearning modules. Our team is partnered with one of the top voice over production companies who provided excellent Spanish speaking voice talent for the entire Elearning.
