Remote Interpreting for International Meetings

For this project, Language Connections provided remote interpreting services for a project that the client was working on from 2016 to 2018.  As they worked on this project, the client reached out to us a language services provider to help them bridge language barriers during a series of meetings between students and professors at a prominent engineering school and a car manufacturer in Japan. These meetings occurred on a semi-weekly basis. Because the conference call participants from the manufacturer couldn’t speak Japanese at a fluent level, an interpreter who was fluent in Japanese and English was needed for these meetings.  The interpreter also needed to have a basic understanding of car manufacturing so that they’d be familiar with the topics discussed.

After we found the perfect interpreter for the job, we set about helping the client keep within a tight budget.  Our solution was to set the interpreter up with the ability to dial into the conference call as an additional participant.  This method proved incredibly helpful for the client’s budget and business needs. On-site interpretation can be very expensive due to travel and accommodation costs. Given the fact that Language Connections was providing interpretation for an educational institution, keeping the project under budget was a top priority. Therefore, Language Connections advised its client to choose the cost-effective method of telephonic interpreting in order to make sure that the cost of the project fit within their budgetary constraints.
