Spanish Translation Research for a Humanitarian Report

Challenges Prior to Spanish Translation
The Spanish translation for this project wasn’t particularly difficult, but our translation services team encountered some problems they needed to handle before actually translating the text from Spanish to English. The first issue the Language Connections team needed to clear up was some grammatical errors or questions. Because the text was a transcription from a video-taped interview, and the recording equipment probably picked up a lot of background noise, some of the text wasn’t transcribed perfectly. This meant some parts were transcribed with grammatical errors. Our translators needed to go back to the source to find out exactly what was being said, which allowed us to fill in these holes from the recording equipment issues.
Once our team had cleared up all these questions, the next challenge was clarifying some of the acronyms used throughout the text. Again, these issues likely stemmed from the recording equipment picking up too much background sound and obscuring what was said. The transcription had a few acronyms that seemed like they could be the same but were not consistent. Our team went back and clarified until all the acronyms used in the text were confirmed.
After fixing these two issues, Language Connections translators went to work providing Spanish translation of the entire text, rendering it into clean, comprehensible, English.
The Result
With Language Connections’ help, this text was rendered into a form that will help scholars write an article about the complicated nuances of medical treatment for indigenous peoples. This text felt especially urgent in its message, as it explored treatment for life-threatening medical concerns like Cancer and AIDs.
