Translating and Conference Interpreting for a Prestigious Business Seminar

This year, as in each of the 4 years previous, Language Connections supplied both conference interpretation and translation services for this reputable business seminar. Our translation team provided Chinese and Portuguese versions of presentation slides, which were run simultaneously with the original English presentation. They also supplied Portuguese and Chinese translation for each handout.
In terms of interpretation, the Language Connections team found 4 interpreters to handle Chinese interpreting and Portuguese interpreting. While one was local, we flew in 3 of them from around the US. These interpreters worked in booths, simultaneously interpreting during each presentation and Q and A session. The interpretation aspect of this project was slightly more challenging because with so many languages, the interpreters needed to work together to be successful. For example, the Portuguese interpreters needed to know what Chinese participants said, thus interpreting from their interpretation. And of course, vice versa for the Chinese participants. By ensuring we hired UN-level interpreters, our team made sure we didn’t lose meaning in this Babylon-like game of telephone.
The Result
Language Connections’ interpretation and translation services helped make the business seminar a rousing success. The interpreters even got a standing ovation at the end of the seminar because they were so effective. They didn’t just manage to capture meaning between languages, but also the mood and personalities of the speakers, thus creating a better bridge between participants.
