Veterans Day Celebrations Around the World
Veterans Day is a public holiday in the United States honoring military veterans of all wars in the United States Armed Forces. It coincides with other similar holidays, Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other countries to mark the end of the World War I. It was first celebrated as Armistice Day, before it was renamed to Veterans Day in 1954. The official date of the holiday is November 11, because major hostilities of the “Great War” ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. Today, there’s a Veterans Day celebration in every city in America, and the holiday is also recognized in many other parts of the world.
